Biography
Though Summer Glau has established herself as a talented up-and-coming actress, it’s interesting to note that she originally started out as a dancer. Summer’s childhood was spent perfecting ballet, and by the time she was just 12 years old, she had decided to pursue a career as a professional ballet dancer. She then went to L.A. to visit friends and started auditioning for commercials. In 2002, Summer Glau landed a guest spot on Angel in an episode that appropriately cast her as a prima ballerina. Bitten by the acting bug, Summer began seeking out more opportunities as an actress.
summer glau in firefly
Summer Glau didn’t have to wait long for another gig as a performer, as she was added to the cast of a new science-fiction show entitled Firefly in 2002. The series, which followed a group of ragtag space misfits, became an instant cult hit for the FOX network, though the show’s impact on the mainstream was decidedly muted. Firefly was pulled after just a handful of airings, yet this didn’t stop Summer from landing gigs on both television shows and movies (including 2004’s Sleepover with Sara Paxton and Steve Carell, as well as an episode of CSI).
summer glau in terminator: the sarah connor chronicles
In 2005, Serenity, the big-screen adaptation of Firefly, hit theaters and managed to pull in a fairly impressive box-office haul. Summer Glau parlayed her burgeoning fame into multiepisode stints on a pair of successful shows, CBS’ military procedural The Unit and the Sci-Fi Network’s creepy The 4400. In 2008, though, Summer Glau landed the job of a lifetime with the TV series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicle in which she is playing the latest Terminator model sent back in time to ensure John Connor’s safety alongside Lena Headey. Summer Glau's engrossing turn as a terminator did not go unoticed by readers at AskMen.com, who voted her No. 36 on the 2009 edition of the Top 99.
